As I am working all week in London, Lucinda from Vocademy will be going to plug the event on Juice FM sometime this week. Gary from Kids Dreams and Gambit Games will be going to Radio Reverb on Friday to do the same.

I also have word that the new MP for Hove and Portslade, Mike Weatherley, will be joining us on Saturday 15th May to see whats going on. He'll be there to meet business owners and public and possibly do a workshop.

Saturday 22nd May @ 12pm
Guy from the breakfast show on Juice FM will be coming to Blank gallery to give a presentation on the station, their audience, music, guests and a focus on what they do locally. He'll also be talking about his own journey into radio and answering any questions from the audience.

Please email me at  sam@scurtis.co.uk  if you'd like to attend.

Johanna and I worked hard all day to finish installing all the objects and printing. At 5.15pm I finally got round to calling Liz at RADIO REVERB to do a quick interview over the phone about the event. I described what it was, where and when and she asked me why lazy people from Brighton should bother coming over to Portslade. I explained that Portslade is actually a great place with some interesting people. We talked about Boundary Road and how its full of interesting and quirky independant shops.

At 6pm we opened our doors. Slowly people started to come and most of the business owners turned up to see how it all looked. They all seemed happy and met each other over a beer or two. Gary from Kids Dreams and Gambit Games explained to me how this event really got people together and talking openly, he'd been to many business events run by the council where business owners would have to sit in a circle and do speed networking etc. He just got frustrated at these things and felt stiffled by the suits. Everyone was talking about their businesses and activities and how it affected their leisure time. An art crowd also came along and joined in the conversations meeting the business owners making a sociable night.

Over bank holiday weekend we started working on making 10 tables so each business/organisation can show a product or object that best represents what they do. Thanks to Tamsin, Will and Hepzi from University of Brighton for giving their free time in order to make the event happen.
